All posts for the month October, 2010

Here I test out my ability to post pictures to my blog from my DeviantArt account.  Click the image to view the larger size, read a description, and download the source file (as promised).

Who is more foolish, the child afraid of the dark or the man afraid of the light?
~Maurice Freehill

While I was in university some time ago, I became very interested in the Free Culture movement that promoted fair intellectual property, Free Software, and Creative Commons licenses.  At the time I was often trying to advocate the use of Creative Commons licenses as a way for artists/musicians to promote their work, but I felt like it was a bit pointless sometimes because I wasn’t really “walking the walk” in this regard.  Even though I was using and even writing Free Software for geometric image generation (the long defunct playSVG libraries), I wasn’t really publishing my art under a Creative Commons license…. at the time, I didn’t really feel like I had much to show.  However, now I am in a better position to be an example of how artists can use Creative Commons licenses to promote their works … and empower other artists too.

Here is how I currently use the principles and tools of Free Culture in my work:

  • all of the software I use for developing the images is Free/Libre Open Source Software.
    • The Gimp  (Free alternative to Photoshop) – enables me to mix images together and create effects
    • Inkscape (Free alternative to Illustrator) – allows me to more easily tile each side of the SpaceCraft Lanterns into something that can be folded up and “glued” nto a 3D shape
    • Fr0st – A program for the generation of “fractal flames” (see this amazing intro video) that most of my newer work features.  I was overjoyed to find this program just today, before I was using the non-Free (but freeware) Apophysis program using Wine (enables Linux to use Windows Programs), which was terribly clunky.  Now I can truly say all my art software is FLOSS.
  • I publish my work under Creative Commons Licenses on content upload sites that enable their use:
    • Flick account : here I post pictures of all my SpaceCraft Lanterns and other products
    • DeviantArt: here are featured my digital designs.
  • I have decided I will start uploading the original high-quality GIMP files for my new designs.  This will enable others to more easily “remix” my art.  Up to now I have only uploaded some lower-quality .png designs to DeviantArt.  Even though I intend to sell my lanterns with these designs on them (etsy account coming soon) , and people could potentially turn them into lanterns themselves, hurting my sales… I don’t think many would go through the trouble.  My SpaceCraft Lanterns they take about a whole day to make, even for me… a master of SpaceCraft Engineering!  I feel like my audience, and my community wants to support me because they know how hard I’ve worked on this stuff.  Only if they have very little money, lots of “free” time, and a intense love for geometry, will they bother trying to make one themselves.  In that case, let them be in the starlight too, I say.
  • To promote the use of Crop Circles in art, I developed a Crop Circle Remix kit to enable other digital artists to play with them in photoediting programs.  They are that were converted from the CAD files on Zef Damen’s most amazing Crop Circle Reconstruction site to the more artist-friendly .svg vector files.  I emailed Zef to ask if I could publish them as such but he didn’t respond so I just forged ahead.  These are the fundamental patterns of creation embedded in farmers fields by advanced races of interdimensional beings… to copyright them seems absurd … maybe I should have put them in the public domain….
  • Recently I have returned writing computer programs to generate geometric images.  However this time I am using the Processing environment to develop my images.  Whereas before my programs only output static images, now I have a whole new dimension to work with: time !  Processing is enabling me to create interactive graphics applets.  Not only can I share the scalable vector graphics they produce but I can also upload the code to OpenProcessing and have the program run as a Java applet on the site.  Magnificent !  You can see a few examples of my geometic toys on my OpenProcessing account.  I hope to eventually compile videos of their activities for use with my VJing friends.  EDIT: I couldn’t resist posting a video of my “Paradox Box” animation video on youtube.  I had so much fun messing around with it on loop in VLC with all kinds of nifty effects added to it.

Ultimately my goal is to spread my SpaceCrafts as far and wide as possible.  Part of that involves selling my works so that I can sustain myself in doing that.  However, there are so many valuable spinoffs to my work that I am happy to share freely… and so much more to come :)  Your feedback fuels my desire to share, so please, if you will, post a comment here or in my galleries.  Also, you can join my new Facebook Group to show your love for the SpaceCrafts.

I got thinking about Masonry while I was authoring some plans today regarding my SpaceCrafts .

Then I decided to try and find the most ridiculous anti-Masonic message that I could possible find so I searched for “Mason evil” and I came up with this video The Curse of Baphomet.

My immediate response to the quote by Albert Pike by which the whole arguement hinges was: “Masonry is much older than this guy, and I wonder how distorted his perspective of the tradition is…” so I searched for “Albert Pike lucifer” and I found this article about who Lucifer is according to the Masons on masonicinfo.com.  It seemed reasonable. One point it made was that Pike was responsible for the Scottish Rite Masonic rituals and had nothing to do with Freemasonry which is separate from that.

Without question, many people who are involved in hegemonic world domination happen to be involved in Masonry of various forms.  It makes sense to me because Masonic symbolism concerns itself with creating social order/structure.  It occurs to me that the tools of masonry can be used to build armies, or to build places of community bonding through spiritual communion, and even in both of these lies a dark and light principle.  Perhaps the armies are people of dignity defending a peaceful society of cooperative economics in harmony with nature from the pillages of a society of social control and corporate greed with no regards mother Gaia.  Perhaps, even with the sacred geometry of churches maximizing the potential for contact with a higher power,  churches have become a place where the dogma of religion has fed the egoic prowess more than our connection with divinity.

As a mathemagician, I have inquired into the works of Alister Crowley, and found that there certainly was both genious and madness in his works.  The amount of writings and magical development he had done is mind-boggling to me, there certainly was a power about this man.  However, it seems that in the end, “the dark side” got him as he died a junkie.

Later on I noticed the text “Views: 666″ on the page, and I thought “….no way, this must be a joke !”, so I reloaded the page and it said “Views: 667″ WHAAAAT !  Aside: Alister Crowley in his Liber 500 equates 666 (in hebrew) to :

  • the sum of all numbers between 1 and 36
  • his name
  • the Qliphoth (demon) of Pisces
  • Spirit of Sun
  • The Name Jesus

I am someone concerned with geometry and it’s link with some kind of … “higher power” … I have observed geometry as important in the symbolism of many different spiritual traditions.

It is also glaringly present in the symbolism of the Masons.  Because of this, I have considered becoming a Freemason.  Even after passing through a phase of watching lots of conspiracy theory documentaries which suggested Masonry’s connection with “The Dark Arts”, I still felt there might be the light of awareness of the guiding principles of creation embedded in the tradition.

While Freemasonry declares itself as fundamentally non-religious, I have come to believe that the traditions and symbolism of Masonry are fundamentally “occult” in nature despite their late secularization, they seem to connect back to ancient  mystery traditions (i.e. Egypt) who were very deeply in touch with the hidden powers of creation.  This is the perspective of the co-Masonry tradition, which, in contrast to traditional Freemasonry, regards men and women as equally valid for membership, and acknowledges the magical nature of the tradition.  Co-Masonic lodges don’t really exist much in Canada … yet.

It appeals to me because I feel it does not have the karmic baggage of Freemasonry and everything done in its name these days.  While Masonic ideals may be used to justify corrupt activities…one might say “God/Alla/Buddha/Rama is evil because genocide is comitted in this name”; I would prefer not to jump to similar conclusions regarding the psycho-spiritual effects of the Masonic rituals.

Just “for the hell of it” I decided to try and find the most ridiculous anti-Masonic message that I could possiblly find so I searched for “Mason evil” and I think I succeeded on the first try with this video rendition of a Christian propanganda comic book The Curse of Baphomet.

My immediate response to the quote by Albert Pike by which the whole arguement hinges was: “Masonry is much older than this guy, and I wonder how distorted his perspective of the tradition is…” so I searched for “Albert Pike lucifer” and I found this article about who Lucifer is according to the Masons on masonicinfo.com ,it gives a reasonable explanation as to why Masons are in no way “Satanic”.

Without question, many people who are involved in hegemonic world domination happen to be involved in Masonry.  It makes sense to me because Masonic symbolism concerns itself with creating social order/structure.  It occurs to me that the tools of masonry can be used to build armies, or to build places of community bonding and spiritual communion, and even in both of these lies a dark and light principle.  Perhaps the armies are people of dignity defending a peaceful society of cooperative economics in harmony with nature from the pilages of a society of social control and corporate greed with no regards mother Gaia.  Perhaps, even with the sacred geometry of churches maximizing the potential for contact with a higher power,  churches have become a place where the dogma of religion has fed the egoic prowess more than our connection with divinity.

Another figurehead of evil quited is the late Alister Crowley.  As a mathemagician, I have inquired into his works, and found that there certainly was both genious and madness in it.  The amount of writings and magical development he had done is mind-boggling to me, there certainly was a power about this man.  However, it seems that in the end, “the dark side” did get him as he died a junkie.

Later on I noticed the text “Views: 666″ on the page, and I thought “….no way, this must be a joke !”, so I reloaded the page and it said “Views: 667″ WHAAAAT, I really was viewer number 666 !  Aside: Alister Crowley in his Liber 500 equates 666 (in hebrew) to :

  • the sum of all numbers between 1 and 36
  • his name
  • the Qliphoth (demon) of Pisces
  • Spirit of Sun
  • The Name Jesus

I suppose Jesus and the numbers 1 to 36 are also evil !

In conclusion, I would like to humbly suggest that geometry is not evil because the Masons flashed the big G with compass and ruler abreast.  My intention in SpaceCrafting are truly to reverence to natural law reflected in Geometry, my commitment to awakening Cosmic Conscious.
